Selling your home? You never get a second chance to make a good first impression!
Once you’ve decided to put your house or flat on the market, you’ll be wanting to get on with the process of selling. Finding a reputable estate agent is the first thing – but wait: does your home look presentable for sale? It’s a good idea to have a frank and full discussion about the condition of your home with your estate agent to see if there are any improvements that can be made. After all, you will both want to achieve the maximum price possible, so give yourself the best chance to impress prospective viewers by presenting your home in immaculate condition.
Once you’ve sorted out any obvious odd jobs round the house, it’s time to really focus on some good old-fashioned cleaning.
Kerb appeal
What’s the first thing any prospective viewer will see? The front of your house and the whole exterior of your property is key in arousing interest. Front gardens and drives should be well kept, paintwork on front doors and windows pristine and brickwork and roofs in top condition. Add colour and interest with some strategically placed pot plants or hanging baskets. Make your house easy on the eye and inviting, so viewers want to come in and see more.
Dust you must
It’s important to understand the difference between a tidy home and a clean home. A proper house clean should leave your home gleaming, looking and smelling fresh and hygienic. Dust gets everywhere, and the longer you leave it the more elbow grease it takes to remove it effectively. For your house to be attractive to buyers, make sure you clean every surface – including skirting boards and tops of cupboards and under electrical equipment too.
Carpets and curtains
Rugs, carpets, curtains and upholstered furniture can be real dust traps that can make your home look and feel dull and unloved. To restore freshness in preparation for the sale of your property, we would advise having your carpets, fitted curtains, sofas and armchairs professionally cleaned. Apple Clean provides exceptional levels of service, including stain removal and Scotchgard protection. Give us a call for a free quote today on 0800 587 4571.
Clean and fresh
A bathroom is a good indicator for the cleanliness of the rest of the house, so keep yours super hygienic and squeaky clean. Check for any evidence of limescale and mould and tackle the source of any lingering smells. Use air freshener too, just in case. You really don’t want your bathroom to be remembered for all the wrong reasons.
The heart of the home
Ask any estate agents and they will tell you that kitchens sell houses. Make sure yours is sparkling clean! Grease, grime and nasty niffs can be a problem in kitchen areas, so give it a deep clean and don’t forget ovens and cooker hoods or extractor fans. We wouldn’t recommend cooking anything that has a strong smell just before your viewing, although a waft of fresh bread baking in the oven may impart just the right degree of homeliness…
